USE OF FACILITATORS OR CONSULTANTS IN THE STATE OF GA

CFLM discourages GA families from using adoption facilitators/consultants. Facilitators/consultants are not licensed by the State of Georgia as child-placing agencies and offer to help:

  1.  match you with a birth parent,
  2.  match you with an agency in another state, or
  3.  help you "walk you through the process of adoption."

Because facilitators/consultants are not licensed, you would have no recourse against them if something went wrong. If you choose to work with a facilitator or consultant, you may not be violating the law, but they are.

The adoption process is already complicated, and we want to protect you from folks who may take advantage of your desire to adopt. Before reaching out to a facilitator/consultant, please discuss any questions with your attorney or adoption agency. They will be able to answer your questions, and you should not have to pay a separate individual/company for this service.
